Library Loan Policy

Undergraduate (UG) Students

  • UG students may borrow up to 30 items, including books, textbooks and DVDs.

  • Library books are loaned for 3 weeks, and are renewed for a period of three weeks.

  • Audiovisual materials can be checked out for seven days with no renewals.

  • A fine of 50 Afs per day will apply to any late library item.

  • Textbooks are checked out for a semester. Prior to the beginning or end of a term, the library will send out notices about timings for the distribution and return of textbooks. In case of late submission of textbooks, a fine of 100 Afs per day will apply for each item.

  • Reserve books can be checked out for two hours. The user may renew the book for an additional two hours, after making certain that another user has not requested the book. If the reserve book is not returned on time, the user will be charged a fine of 50 Afs per hour. The fine will start to accrue at the start of the first late hour.

  • UG students are responsible for all materials checked out to their accounts. The library strongly advises against loaning borrowed items to another person. In the event of loss or a late return, the account holder will be liable for the applicable fines.

  • If a UG student does not submit library items, or accrues a fine of $10 or more, his or her name will be placed on the stop-list. Subsequently, that person will not be able to check out any library books or textbooks until the account is cleared.

MBA Students

  • MBA students may borrow up to 15 items, including books and DVDs.

  • Library books are loaned for 3 weeks, and are renewed for a period of three weeks.

  • Audiovisual materials can be checked out for seven days with no renewals.

  • A fine of 50 Afs per day will apply to any late library item.

  • Textbooks are issued by the MBA department, and are accountable by that department.

  • Reserve books may be checked out for two hours. The book may be renewed for an additional two hours, after making certain that another user has not requested the book. If the reserve book is not returned on time, the user will be charged a fine of 50 Afs per hour. The fine will start to accrue at the start of the first late hour.

  • MBA students are responsible for all materials checked out to their accounts. The library strongly advises against loaning borrowed items to another person. In the event of loss or a late return, the account holder will be liable for the applicable fines.

  • If a MBA student does not submit library items, or accrues a fine of $10 or more, his or her name will be added to the stop-list. Subsequently, that person will not be able to check out any library items.

Alumni

  • For members of the AUAF Alumni Association, The Marlowe Library is pleased to provide on-going access to library services upon registration.

  • Alumni have to deposit 3500 AFN up to 10,000 AFN depending on the number of books they want to barrow at the same time.

  • Alumni may borrow from 1 up to 10 library books depending on the amount of deposit.

  • Books are loaned for 3 weeks, and are renewed for a period of three weeks.

  • A fine of 50 Afs per day will apply to any late library item.

  • Alumni are not allowed to borrow textbooks under any circumstances.

  • Alumni are responsible for all materials checked out to their accounts. The library strongly advises against lending items that you have borrowed to another person. In the event of loss or a late return, the account holder will be liable for the applicable fines.

  • If an alumnus does not return library items or pay fines, his or her name will be placed on the stop-list. Subsequently, that person is not able to check out any more library books until the account is cleared.

Staff and Interns

  • Staff members and interns may borrow up to 30 items, including books, textbooks and DVDs.

  • Library books are loaned for 3 weeks and can be renewed for a period of three weeks.

  • Audiovisual materials can be checked out for seven days with no renewals.

  • A fine of 50 Afs per day will apply to any late library items.

  • Textbooks may be checked out for a semester, only if the staff member or intern is registered for that particular class. Prior to the beginning or end of a term, the library will send out notices about timings for the distribution and return of textbooks. In case of late submission of textbooks, a fine of 100 Afs per day will apply for each item.

  • Reserve books can be checked out for two hours. The user may renew the book for an additional two hours, after making certain that another user has not requested the book. Professional Development Institute (PDI)

  • PDI students may borrow one library item if they are a current PDI student.

  • Library books are loaned for three weeks OR for the remaining length of the PDI course, whichever is shorter.  Books may be renewed for a period of three weeks if there are three weeks remaining in the PDI course.

  • A fine of 50 Afs per day will apply to any late library items.

  • PDI students may only check out books from the Library's circulating collection and may not check out textbooks.

  • PDI students are responsible for all materials checked out to their accounts. The library strongly advises against lending borrowed items to another person. In the event of loss or a late return, the account holder will be liable for the applicable fines.

  • If a PDI student wishes to check out a book from the Library, he or she must complete a Library registration form obtainable from the Library or the PDI Office.  

  • If a PDI student does not submit library items or does not pay any accrued fines, his or her name will be placed on the Stop-list. Subsequently, that person will not be able to check out any library books, enroll in any future PDI or AUAF courses, or obtain a course completion certificate from PDI.  Once the item is returned and/or the fine paid, the student will be removed from the stop-list.

Faculty

  • Faculty may borrow up to 50 items, including books, textbooks and DVDs. Additional material may be borrowed with the library director’s consent.

  • Library books are loaned for 3 weeks, and are renewed two times which is equal to six another weeks.

  • Textbooks are checked out for a semester and are renewable for the next semester in case of required.  

  • Audiovisual materials can be checked out for seven days with no renewals.

  • Faculty members are responsible for all items checked out on their accounts. The library strongly advises against lending borrowed items to another person. In the event of loss, damage or non-return, replacement fees will be assessed for those items.

  • If a faculty member does not return library items, or pay for lost or damaged items, that faculty member’s account will be frozen and no further checkouts will be permitted.

Adjunct Faculty

  • Adjunct Faculty may borrow up to 10 items, including books, textbooks and DVDs. Additional material may be borrowed with the library director’s consent.

  • Library books are loaned for 3 weeks, for a period of three weeks.

  • Textbooks are checked out for a semester and are not renewable.  

  • Audiovisual materials can be checked out for seven days with no renewals.

  • Faculty members are responsible for all items checked out on their accounts. The library strongly advises against lending borrowed items to another person. In the event of loss, damage or non-return, replacement fees will be assessed for those items.

  • If a faculty member does not return library items, or pay for lost or damaged items, that faculty member’s account will be frozen and no further checkouts will be permitted.
